Love your teeth

Happy Valentine’s Day! It is a day that many loved ones celebrate by gifting sweets, cards, flowers, and such. Who doesn’t love to receive gifts, especially a delicious box of chocolates and dessert? Of course, here in the dental field, we are very alert when it comes to candy, even more aware of our patients on this day. But what’s scarier than chocolate gifts on Valentine’s Day is the next day when all candy is on sale. There is nothing wrong with indulging in a piece of chocolate here and there, but excessive amounts of sweets are terrible for your teeth.

Love your teeth

Most people are aware that too much sugar is bad, but they do not know the specifics of why exactly. Sugar is not what is attacking your teeth but the bacteria that feeds on the sugar. This bacteria becomes plaque, which is the main culprit for tooth decay. Plaque will stick to your teeth and produce acids that destroy the enamel that protects your teeth.

Just remember to take it easy this Valentine’s Day on the sweets to keep your smile healthy. Don’t forget to brush your teeth at least twice a day, as well as your tongue, which hosts most of the bacteria. Floss every day, consume nutritious food, and limit your snacking, both sweet and salty.
